BY SUSAN & ADAM LEMON — Abigail’s Bed and Breakfast Inn hosted the lucky prize winners of last year’s 2017 Seasonal Sweepstakes Getaway Prize Package, here in Ashland, Oregon in November. The holiday getaway included a two night stay here at Abigail’s Bed and Breakfast Inn with tickets to the 11th Annual Culinary Festival donated by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce.
The event itself held annually in November by the Chamber, kicks off with a Five Course Dinner prepared by some of Ashland’s Top Local Chefs. This is then followed by the Friday night Quick Fire Challenge where the secret key ingredient has most of the Chefs frowning in concentration, wondering how to outdo each other in the kitchen. The Mixology competition has local bartenders competing for the top award using all of their mesmerizing skills to make the perfect drink! The audience watches in awe! Saturday and Sunday bring the intense competition to the brink – our 12 Ashland Chefs get to compete against each other, vying fiercely for recognition in their field. Visitors not only get to sample food and local Southern Oregon Wines from over 35 local vendors throughout the two days of intense competition, but can also take part in the Culinary Workshops at various locations throughout Ashland. Saturday morning introduces us to the Junior Chefs competition and gives these young Chefs an opportunity to compete against one another. Another generation of Chefs are discovered. The winner of the Ashland Culinary Festival travel to Portland to take part in the” Bite in Portland” each summer and in past years our Chefs have returned to Ashland bearing the title of Iron Chef Oregon.
Our winners of this prized package deal last year, Matt Wastradowski and his partner arrived on Friday night. Their weekend was spent sampling the delights of the Ashland Culinary Festival as well as enjoying all of the comforts that Abigail’s Bed and Breakfast Inn has on offer. Adam and I took the time to introduce Matt and his partner to our long time repeat Culinary Festival guests Dori and Curtis Chow. Dori and Curtis not only attend the Festival annually, but were married here in Ashland, Oregon that October. The Chow family moved into Abigail’s “lock stock and barrel” for a wonderful wedding weekend. The wedding ceremony was held at Edenvale Winery which both Adam and I were fortunate enough to attend. Kelsey Franz, Projects & Special Events Coordinator for the Ashland Chamber of Commerce took a break from her live reporting on the competition to warmly welcome Matt to Ashland, Oregon and to congratulate him on his Culinary “win”.
As always Adam and I support our Annual Culinary Festival here in Ashland, Oregon. As a Chef and a lover of our local restaurants, I strongly encourage all “Foodies” and serious Wine Lovers to take time out, not only to visit Ashland during the Ashland Culinary Festival, but to book your stay with us here at Abigail’s Bed and Breakfast Inn. We always have a Special Package deal just for this incredible weekend that happens here in Ashland, Oregon every November!
