Fly fishing the Rogue

Southern Oregon is home to the great Rogue River, and we consider it our home water. For the fly-fisherman, the Rogue offers something almost year round. While we primarily target steelhead in the fall, there are steelhead in the river all year. The summer steelhead fishery on the Upper Rogue is the most popular and most productive.

By late July, we historically have enough fish in the Upper Rogue to make a day out of it. As summer turns to fall, our steelhead numbers ascend and so does it's popularity. September and October are "fly only" months, and fly-fisherman from around the West visit our great river. As fishing pressure slows down in November and December, steelhead continue to migrate upriver in good numbers.

From guided fishing expeditions to classes and clinics, The Ashland Fly Shop offers a range of options for everyone from first-timers to old-timers. We recommend visiting their website to see what’s on offer this season. Courses include AFS Fly Tying, Trout Fishing Techniques, Intro to Fly Fishing on the Lawn, Intro to Steelhead Fishing, Intro to Trout Fishing on the Water, Spey Clinic and much more.
