OSF Elizabethan Theater reopens with new name and sound system

Oregon Shakespeare Festival is approaching a milestone outdoor season. When Richard III, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Into the Woods open the weekend of June 13-15, they will do so in the Allen Elizabethan Theatre, newly renamed thanks to a generous grant from The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, and newly outfitted with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system made possible through a donation from Ashland residents Judy Shih and Joel Axelrod.

The sound system is designed to enhance the voice — bringing clarity, articulation and projection throughout the venue — and should also help OSF’s assistive hearing devices deliver an improved experience for audience members. There are will be some mighty fine sounds coming from the Allen Elizabethan Theatre stage this season, particularly courtesy of the live 25-piece orchestra that will be central to Into the Woods. Amanda Dehnert, the production’s director and musical director, has assembled the largest orchestra to ever perform on the Allen Elizabethan stage.
