Deedie and David Runkel re-invented themselves in 2002 and became Ashland innkeepers. Prior to that, they’d spent over 20 years in Washington, DC. David worked as a journalist first and then in politics as a press secretary to the Attorney General and subsequently Communications Director of the House Banking Committee. Besides innkeeping, he teaches at the Osher Life Long Learning Center at SOU and plays bridge. Deedie spent many years working in non-profit management and international development, most notably for the Peace Corps, in headquarters and as country director in Belize. An active Rotarian, she’s also a writer. Her first book, Boxes, appeared in 2010 and another about the life of an inn and innkeeping is due out in 2014.
